Towards a Cognitively Plausible Model for Quantification
نویسنده
چکیده
The purpose of this paper is to suggest that quantifiers in natural languages do not have a fixed truth functional meaning as has long been held in logical semantics. Instead we suggest that quantifiers can best be modeled as complex inference procedures that are highly dynamic and sensitive to the linguistic context, as well as time and memory

A Cognitively Plausible Approach to UnderstandingComplex
This paper describes a cognitively plausible mechanism for systematically handling complex syntactic constructions within a semantic parser. More speciically, we show how these constructions are handled without a global syntactic grammar or syntactic parse tree representations and without sacriicing the beneets of semantically-oriented parsing. We evaluate the psychological validity of our arch...
متن کاملInferring aspectuality on French sentences: a minimalist approach
Current models of temporality in language are either inaccurate or too complex to be cognitively plausible. We present a cognitive model of the computation of aspect in French. Our approach emphasizes the importance of minimalism for cognitive plausibility: structures and computation are kept simple and combinatorial explosion is avoided. Though the model and its current implementation remain p...
متن کاملTowards a Cognitive Model of Multimodal Output for Language Production∗
In this paper I discuss some points relevant for developing a computational cognitive model of the conceptualiser, the first component in the human language production system according to Levelt (1989). I describe extensions of the incremental conceptualiser (inC) with the aim of creating a cognitively plausible multimodal dialogue model. I point out a way to represent multimodal knowledge on t...
متن کاملCognitively Plausible Information Visualization
Information Visualization is concerned with the art and technology of designing and implementing highly interactive, computer supported tools for knowledge discovery in large non-spatial databases. Information Visualization displays, also known as information spaces or graphic spatializations, differ from ordinary data visualization and geovisualization in that they may be explored as if they r...
متن کاملSALL-E: Situated Agent for Language Learning
We describe ongoing research towards building a cognitively plausible system for near one-shot learning of the meanings of attribute words and object names, by grounding them in a sensory model. The system learns incrementally from human demonstrations recorded with the Microsoft Kinect, in which the demonstrator can use unrestricted natural language descriptions. We achieve near-one shot learn...
